Press release: OVERLOADED ihtgw Exhibition Blow Off Schedule, London Fashion week September 09
Samia Malik is a London based designer, she studied MA womenswear at Central St Martins and since 2002 she's been working on her unisex label: SAMIA MALIK ihtgw. Which at present mainly consists of a conceptual line of printed t shirts, design concepts are based on: urban structures, propaganda, music and use of cheap labour within the fashion industry. In past few years Samia did experimental anti fashion/ consumer culture presentations, in selected commercial locations in central London; Leicester square, Tottenham Court road and Oxford street. Aims of these presentations has been to show work in public areas instead of conventional fashion show format. Her next presentation during fashion week in September 09, will consist of an installation discussing propaganda, debasement of human values in fashion industry and also include various DJ sets. During fashion week a lot of fashion press and buyers want to visit shows, with expectation of seeing pristine catwalk show, showing avante garde dresses. In reality fashion cycle consists of intensive use of cheap labour, that is not only used by high streets but also high end designer labels. Main purpose of Samia's exhibition; to create more awareness about unethical standards in the fashion industry. Exhibition is free and everyone's welcome.
